The summer exodus begins with Jutgla swapping Barcelona for Club Brugge

There were always going to be casualties in the “revolution” Barcelona were planning over the summer. Knowing they were going to have a tough time selling players with high wages, the club would need to look at Barça B players.

Thus was the case with forward Ferran Jutgla who is set to leave Barcelona and join Belgian side Club Brugge on a permanent deal. According to Sport, the official announcement should be made soon with Jutgla having already gone through a medical. He will sign a five-year deal with Barcelona receiving a €5 million fee with variables that could see it rise to €7 million.

The writing was on the wall for the former Espanyol academy product. He was scoring goals for fun with the ‘B’ team during the latter half of the season and was one of the reasons they were fighting for a playoff spot for promotion.

Jutgla confirmed his departure more than 10 days ago. He said, “The club wants me to leave … and that’s the way it is. They don’t want me.”

The 23-year-old split his time between the ‘B’ team and the first team between December and January on account of all the injuries. He played six games in LaLiga, four as a starter, and scored one goal. He played twice in the Copa del Rey, both starts, and netted one goal there as well.

Selling some of the older players not playing with the first team is one of the avenues the club is going to be using to try to alleviate their financial position. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a drop in the bucket but every little bit counts at the moment.

As for Jutgla, he had offers from other leagues as well but one of his ambitions is to get to play in the Champions League. He’ll get his opportunity with Club Brugge.
