Real Madrid managed to fend-off stiff competition for Tchouameni

Having failed to sign Kylian Mbappe, it was only a matter of time before Real Madrid switched course and spent the money meant for Mbappe on improving other areas on the pitch.

They’ve certainly splashed the cash once again as Real Madrid have reportedly signed Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni. According to Marca, Madrid have reached an agreement with Monaco for the young midfielder as the Ligue 1 side is set to receive €100 million.

The player’s will to join Madrid played a significant factor as both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in the 22-year-old. PSG were offering more but the draw of Madrid proved to be stronger.

Alongside Eduardo Camavinga, Tchouameni is a signing for the present and future. While Camavinga was not a starter, he was an impact sub and was crucial in the lead-up to their Champions League title.

The trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kross and Casemiro is going to need a refresh soon and Real Madrid now claim two of the best young midfielders in the world.

The price tag is certainly going to raise some eyebrows but if anyone can afford it, it’s Real Madrid. Again, they have money to spend and other clubs know it.

The Mbappe snub hurt the Spanish giants but it also presented an opportunity and they were able to take advantage of it with Tchouameni. He’s also likely not going to be the last player the club sign.

He becomes their second signing of this offseason after signing Antonio Rudiger on a free transfer from Chelsea. Real Madrid want to defend their LaLiga and Champions League title. With these signings, and probably more to come, they’re certainly going to be the favorites in both tournaments ahead of next season.
