Barcelona make new offer to Ousmane Dembele
With only four days until Ousmane Dembele’s contract expires, Barcelona have reportedly made a new offer to the enigmatic French forward.
According to Sport, his agent, Moussa Sissoko, landed in Barcelona to meet with representatives from the Catalan side to discuss his client’s future.
The club has presented a new offer but it is apparently a lower offer than the one originally made and it does not include bonuses for Sissoko.
One of the roadblocks throughout the negotiations has been the exorbitant fees Dembele’s agent was demanding. Barcelona were never in a position to pay those commissions and likely wouldn’t have even if they were in a better financial position.
The club had all but assumed Dembele had an agreement in place with another team and would sign as a free agent. Once the season ended, however, there little more than speculation about where he could land.
He was linked with PSG as a petition from Kylian Mbappe but the Parisian side was looking to reinforce somewhere else. He was also being linked with Chelsea who had a stronger interest than PSG. The link with Thomas Tuchel was one of the main factors as to why he would sign with the Premier League club.
But that link also appears to have been severed, which means Dembele is down to only one option – Barcelona.
Dembele himself has expressed his desire to stay but wanted the club’s offer to improve. Barcelona has held strong and unless something drastically changes and a new team makes an offer, Barcelona has seemingly come out the “winners” in these negotiations.
