Carlos Vela inks extension with LAFC till 2023

After weeks of speculation, it’s officially official. Carlos Vela has renewed his relationship with LAFC, extending his contract with the southern Californian side through 2023.

The Mexican international joined Los Angeles as the face of the franchise when the Major League Soccer club kicked off its inaugural campaign in 2018, coming over from La Liga’s Real Sociedad.

Carlos Vela has put together a beautiful resume at LAFC. In 2019 he won the MLS MVP after bagging 34 goals and 15 assists. The former Mexico international helped LAFC win the 2019 MLS Supporters’ Shield, a trophy awarded to the club with the most points during the regular season. In 118 matches played with LAFC, Vela has found the back of the net 73 times.

In the 2022 campaign, Vela is once again proving he’s a lethal threat anytime he’s on the pitch, leading his club in goals with six on the season so far.

LAFC are on a roll in the 2022 MLS campaign, boasting the best record in the league (10-3-3). With the summer additions of Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini, this squad is poised to hoist its first MLS championship trophy in franchise history. It’s the only title missing from Carlos Vela’s trophy cabinet, to complete his illustrious tenure in Los Angeles.
