Three talking points from Barcelona’s win over Sevilla
Lewandowski continues goal-scoring form
With his goal against Sevilla, Lewandowski has now scored five goals in four matches. Those numbers are good enough to have him tied atop the Pichichi race with Iago Aspas.
He’s been worth his weight in goal so far this season and looked like the player Barcelona had been missing the last couple of seasons. Lewandowski could have had a hat-trick had it not been for the Sevilla defenders, their keeper and a poor decision by Ousmane Dembele moments before the end of the half.
He’s started all of Barcelona’s games this season and, against Sevilla, it was the first time he was subbed off.
Unsurprisingly, Xavi was full of praise for the former Bayern Munich player.
“It’s not just goals, it’s his work off the ball, how he presses; he is a spectacular reference for us,” Xavi said. “He is a fantastic player, his timing, the solutions he finds. It is all indicative of the maturity he has.”
“He’s helping us a lot, his leadership, the thing people don’t see, he helps everyone, staff, youngsters, the veterans. He’s positive for the group, a natural leader, a winner, how he trains. For me, it’s a wonder to have him in the team.”
The amount of money Barcelona paid and his age raised eyebrows when the deal went through. If there were any doubts before, Lewandowski is certainly quelling those doubts.
