Barcelona’s Eric Garcia continues good start to season

Before being subbed out, Eric Garcia scored Barcelona’s third and final goal. It was a nice bow to a solid game for the young center-back.

He’s started every game and has not put in a foot wrong. It’s a stark contrast to last season where he was easily beat when challenging for the ball and he frequently made positional mistakes. His season went so poorly that some were questioning whether the club made a mistake in signing him.

Garcia has vastly improved and even with the arrivals of Kounde and Andreas Christensen, he remains in the starting line-up.

He’s also been an integral part of why the Blaugrana have only conceded one goal in four matches.

“For a defender, it is especially gratifying not to concede a goal,” Garcia said. “Everything has been thanks to the collective work shown.”

It will be interesting to see if he continues to be in the staring line-up if and when Hector Bellerin slots in at right-back. Everyone wants to see the partnership of Ronald Araujo and Kounde but Garcia could end up being a surprise.

In any case, even if he does end up being in and out of the line-up, he gives Xavi some quality depth to use when he decides to rotate the team. Given the fixture schedule and the World Cup, rotating the side is going to be important.
