Al Nassr eyeing a move for Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets
Sergio Busquets’ Barcelona future is very much up in the air at the moment. His contract is set to run out at the end of the season and has yet to decide what that future will be.
He seemingly now has a few options.
Busquets could potentially be Cristiano Ronaldo’s newest teammate as Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr are reportedly interested in signing the veteran midfielder.
According to ESPN, Al Nassr are going to line up an offer for the soon-to-be free agent and reportedly pay him an annual salary of €13 million net per season.
The 34-year-old had planned to leave once his contract was up and was even considering departing during the winter transfer window. However, he’s since decided to stay until the summer.
Manager Xavi Hernandez still sees Busquets as an important part of his set-up despite also deciding on Frenkie de Jong as his successor. Barcelona are considering offering Busquets an extension though it is believed if it is offered and he accepts, it comes with the knowledge his role will be reduced.
Whether or not that is a deal break remains to be seen.
The option of going to MLS is also on the table with Inter Miami as the club most heavily linked with him.
Aside from his time at Barcelona coming to a close sooner rather than later, Busquets has been the focal point of criticism during the last couple of seasons. He’s been singled out in the club’s recent failure and believes some of it is unfair.
Even at his age and with calls of his benching, if he is fit, he is going to play.
He played the 120 minutes in Barcelona’s win over Intercity in the Copa del Rey and then started in the league against Atletico Madrid where he played 81 minutes.
