The decision that Real Madrid has made about Eden Hazard
By Manuel Meza
Real Madrid is not a team particularly known for poor transfer decisions. Recent contracts such as those of Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga or Antonio Rudiger are a clear example of this.
When talking about failures in terms of Merengue signings, it is more often about arrivals that did not happen, like the Kylian Mbappe case.
But we would probably be forgetting what is perhaps the most disappointing signing of the decade for the resident team of the Santiago Bernabeu. Yes, we are talking about Eden Hazard.
The 32-year-old Belgian international seems to be moving closer and closer to bringing his adventure at Real Madrid to an end, with little playing time this season as the main evidence.
After landing in the Spanish capital from Chelsea in exchange for 100 million euros in 2019, the one who arrived with a star status has not convinced the Merengue board and fans at all.
This season, Eden Hazard has only played three LaLiga games, three in the Champions League and one in the Copa del Rey, with a total of 296 minutes of playing time.
Real Madrid eager to part ways with Eden Hazard next summer
With this in mind, and according to information from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid would like to get rid of the player this summer. His contract with the meringues continues until 2024, but the 32-year-old will not be retained if a good offer falls on the table during the next transfer window.
A sale to the Saudi Arabian league is one of the options mentioned and such a move would allow Real Madrid to recoup a small sum of money rather than let the Belgian go free in the summer of 2024.
Therefore, after a prolific career in London defending the Chelsea shirt, and a sportingly irrelevant stint at Real Madrid, the days of elite football for Eden Hazard seem very close to ending.
