FC Barcelona is already looking forward to the upcoming summer transfer window.

Xavi Hernandez‘s plans are quite clear and in addition to targeting a midfielder and an attacker, the blaugranas also desire a central defender who can fulfill several important functions, including alternating as a right-back.

Ronald Araujo has partly filled that dual role as has the club’s last important signing: Jules Kounde. Both are smart, strong defenders who can take on varied responsibilities.

Barcelona aims to be a protagonist in next transfer window

It is no longer seen as a surprise that the leaders of LaLiga may be one of the entertainers of the next transfer market. The group chaired by Joan Laporta is actively working on making its squad.

With this in mind, it is worth reviewing the list of defenders who, according to the sporting press, might be in the crosshairs of the Catalan team:

1. Aymeric Laporte

Laporte is a talented and reliable central defender who has been an integral part of Manchester City’s success in recent years. Xavi has his eyes on him and, according to rumors, the Spaniard would be willing to leave the English club.

2. Inigo Martinez

Iñigo Martinez is a solid and reliable central defender with outstanding passing and dribbling skills. Barcelona has shown interest in signing him in previous seasons. One of the things that might stop his move to the cule club is his issue with injuries.

3. Evan N’Dicka

The French youngster is a versatile and talented central defender with outstanding skills in speed, agility and clean passing. According to SPORT, he is one of the central defenders Xavi has scribbled onto his wish-list of players.

4. Juan Foyth

Another of those on the list is Argentine back-liner Juan Foyth. His ability to play and defend are characteristics that the cule coach is looking for. One of the things that raises doubt about his possible signing, is a history of physical problems.

5. Thomas Meunier

And finally, one last defender who could be a target for Xavi and the Barça coaching staff is experienced Belgian defender Thomas Meunier. Opinions about him are divided, but some sources of information suggest Xavi is keen on him due to his versatility.
