Which Real Madrid players are awaiting new deals?
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Toni Kroos has agreed to a new contract with Real Madrid that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2024.
There are still two key players whose futures with Los Blancos remain uncertain. Luka Modric, one of the key players in their last quest for the 14th Champions League trophy and captain Karim Benzema, the main offensive player in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
The Croatian midfielder has won five Champions League titles and a Ballon d’Or during his time at the club, while the French striker has scored over 300 goals and won numerous domestic and European titles. Benzema is also the reigning Ballon d’Or winner. Both players are in the latter stages of their careers, and there have been doubts over whether they will be offered new contracts.
Modric, 37, could be ready for a contract renewal with Real Madrid, according to Marca. Florentino Perez is said to be willing to offer him a new contract if the legendary player will settle for a more secondary role for the upcoming season. Perez has shown a preference to offer one-year deals to players over 35.
Benzema, 35, has also been the subject of speculation about his future, with reports suggesting that Real Madrid may look to bring in a younger striker to replace him in the coming years. However, it has been reported that the No. 2 goal-scorer in Real Madrid history, will sign a new deal in the upcoming weeks.
Modric has been a key player for Madrid once again this season, playing a vital role in recent victories over Chelsea in the Champions League and Barcelona in the Copa del Rey. Modric has contributed 6 goals and 6 assists thus far this season.
Benzema, meanwhile, has been in outstanding form in front of goal, scoring 26 goals in all competitions so far this season and he continues to be a crucial player for Ancelotti’s side.
