Lionel Messi’s representatives weren’t messing around when they said they wanted his future settled as soon as possible.

Less than a week after playing his final game with Paris-Saint Germain, it looks like Messi’s next destination is set.

The Argentine superstar is set to take his talents to MLS as all signs indicate he is joining David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

An announcement from Messi is expected soon on his social media pages but barring a radical change in tune, everything appears to be done.

This brings an end to a bit of a saga with contradicting news in the last 48 hours.

Things heated up when Jorge Messi was spotted in Barcelona with Joan Laporta, fueling rumors of a return to Barcelona. Initially, Jorge Messi said a return could happen and it was Leo’s preferred choice. However, things then took a turn with reports coming out a return was complicated.

Those reports further strengthened as Barcelona could not guarantee Messi that he would be able to be registered. His camp wanted a guarantee and even though they couldn’t provide one, they made a formal offer.

Seeing no guarantees, the only other choice for Messi and his family was Inter Miami and MLS. An astronomical deal from Saudi Arabia was also on the table but despite the amount of money being thrown at him, he felt his family wouldn’t settle well there opted for a move to the United States.

According to reporting from The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio, Felipe Cardenas and Pablo Maurer, Inter Miami structured a very specific deal in which part of the contract will see Messi sharing profits with Apple and Adidas as the league is doing what they can to bring in arguably the best player in the world.

It now seems like Messi will finish out his playing career in MLS. He’s won everything he can in Europe as well as with Argentina. While Barcelona supporters are devastated a return of the best player in their club history won’t happen, Messi has earned the right to decide where he wants to go unfortunately for Barcelona, they couldn’t provide the assurances he wanted.

It will be interesting, however, to see how he fares in MLS. A league that has its detractors but one in which other stars have found things not as easy as they perhaps expected.
