Romelu Lukaku and the betrayal of Inter Milan
Romelu Lukaku is one of the most well-known and talented players in the world. He has played with important teams like Manchester United, Chelsea and Inter. His most successful period was when he played for Inter under Antonio Conte.
At Inter he was an idol. The fans loved him and he was treated like a king. Despite his first exit from Inter two years ago, the fans accepted, and welcomed, him back again last year. Also, the fans and the club were close to him during last season when he missed a lot of games due to injury.
When the season ended and the loan of the Belgium striker ended, he returned to Chelsea. Most analysts and fans believed an agreement between Chelsea and Inter would be achieved and Lukaku would return definitively at Inter. The Italian club did everything they could to reach an agreement with Chelsea despite their financial difficulties.
After some time, the two clubs agreed with each other and when everyone thought the operation was closed, something unexpected happened. When Inter tried to contact him to reach an agreement regarding the contract, Lukaku didn’t respond to the calls from the club and his teammates for several days.
This behavior of Lukaku left the club and his teammates deluded and doubtful regarding what was happening around the player. During those days, the media reported that Lukaku had reached an agreement and was going to Inter’s biggest rival, Juventus.
Everybody at Inter in those moments was in a bad situation and didn’t understand what was going on because from one side, Lukaku was saying he wanted to stay at Inter and from the other side he reached an agreement with Juventus and decided to go to the biggest rival of the vice-champion of Europe. Also, a lot of his teammates felt betrayed by his behavior which is not new to him.
On different occasions Lukaku has made some behavior or actions which left his clubs, or fans, in difficult situations or feeling betrayed by him. For example, this is the second time at Inter where he has declared he would stay and later goes away. Another example was when he was a Chelsea player for the last time where he gave an interview apologizing to Inter fans for leaving and that he was an Inter fan and hoped one day he would come back.
Now Lukaku finds himself in a difficult situation in his career. For the moment, he is training alone in London because he is not part of Chelsea’s plans for the new season. Also, Inter is no longer interested in him after learning he was talking with Juventus leading up to the Champions League final. Juventus is facing their own problems and there is uncertainty regarding their signing of Lukaku.
To make the transfer happen they first need to sell Dusan Vlahovic. Juventus isn’t the only side interested in Lukaku as Al Hilal has made an important offer to the player and Chelsea. Still, this offer from the Saudi club is not being taken into consideration for the moment Lukaku as he still wants to play in Europe.
For the moment, everything seems on stand-by and it needs to be seen whether a so-called “betrayal” will occur, and Lukaku will play for Juventus, or if this soap opera has a different ending altogether.
