Edson Alvarez closer to fulfilling his dream of playing in the EPL
It looks like El Tri midfielder Edson Álvarez might finally be on his way to the English Premier League.
Multiple reports indicate Álvarez has flown to London for a medical after agreeing terms with West Ham United. The purported deal is for five years.

As we reported last month, Álvarez has been in demand this summer with a near move to Borussia Dortmund scuttled after the German club declined to meet the asking price.
Álvarez joined Ajax Amsterdam from Club América in the summer of 2019 and has helped the Dutch giants win two Eredivisie titles (2021-22, 2021-22) as well as one domestic cup.
The Edson Alvarez bio
The 25-year-old Tlalnepantla (State of Mexico) native joined arguably Mexico’s biggest club – América – at the age of 16 and made his first division debut at 19 (on Oct. 29, 2016), scoring his first goal for the Aguilas in the Liga MX final two months later.
Ahead of the next season, Álvarez was given the No. 4 shirt and earned a starting spot as a defender. His steady performances caught the eye of national team coach Juan Carlos Osorio and he did not squander the opportunities granted.
Álvarez started at right back for El Tri during the 2018 World Cup and, during the subsequent Liga MX season, adapted to a new position – defensive midfielder.
During the Apertura 2018 Liga MX final, Alvarez scored both goals in América’s 2-0 victory over crosstown rivals Cruz Azul.
Six months later, Edson left for Europe where he was handed the No. 4 shirt. The midfielder made his first appearance on Aug. 17, 2019, and scored his first goal for Ajax 12 days later. He quickly endeared himself to Ajax fans, even more so after becoming the first Mexican to score on his UEFA Champions League debut, netting the club’s second in a 3-0 win over Lille.
After 98 matches with Ajax, Alvarez appears poised for a new challenge even though it comes one year after he thought he’d been transferred to Chelsea. Assuming he passes his medical, Edson will finally get his chance to play in the EPL.
