Harry Kane has completed his move to Bayern Munich, signing a four-year deal until June 2027. According to ESPN, Bayern paid Spurs in excess of €100 million for the British striker.
Despite some “will he, won’t he” speculation leading up the deal, it has indeed gone through with Kane embarking on a new adventure abroad.
“I’m very happy to be a part of FC Bayern now,” Kane said to Bayern Munich’s official website. “Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I’ve always said that I want to compete and prove myself at the highest level during my career. This club is defined by its winning mentality — it feels very good to be here.”
One of the knocks, for lack of a better word, aimed towards Kane is the fact he hasn’t won much, if any silverware. Though through no fault of his own as Tottenham haven’t been in many positions to win a title. That all changes now that he’s at Bayern.
For their part, the Bavarians finally seem to have found a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Bayern signed Sadio Mane last season and tried to play without a striker under Julien Nagelsmann, with mixed results. Both Nagelsmann and Mane are gone and Thomas Tuchel has taken over.
“It’s been a long process, but now we’re all the happier that Harry Kane will be wearing the Bayern Munich shirt with immediate effect,” said Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen. “Harry Kane was our absolute dream player right from the start. He is a perfect fit for us and the club’s DNA in terms of both football and character.”
Last season was a bit of a disappointment by Bayern’s standards. They were trounced in the Champions League by Manchester City and had it not been for Borussia Dortmund collapsing in the final game of the season, Bayern would not have won the league.
The expectation with Kane’s arrival is they’ll once again have a reference point in attack and it should go a long way towards once again claiming the Bundesliga and making a deep run in the Champions League.
“World-class center forwards have always been an important factor when FC Bayern has celebrated its greatest triumphs, and we’re convinced Harry Kane will continue this success story,” Dreesen said. “Our fans can look forward to one of the best goalscorers of our time.”
