Hudson-Odoi joins Nottingham Forest for £5M on three-year deal
Nottingham Forest have been active in the current transfer window. They’ve targeted Trevoh Chalobah and have already secured Divock Origi on loan from AC Milan. Forest has also finalized a permanent deal for Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
The youngster, who spent the previous season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, had received an offer from Fulham earlier in the window, but The Reds managed to secure the 22-year-old’s signature. Hudson-Odoi will be reunited with Steve Cooper, with whom he worked in the England U-17s.
Hudson-Odoi scored 1 goal in 21 appearances with Leverkusen last year, but did find the net 16 times while wearing a Chelseas shirt. He also has three caps with England.
Forest believes that Hudson-Odoi, along with Anthony Elanga, can strengthen their front line, especially after the departure of Brennan Johnson.
Fulham were the first to approach Hudson-Odoi but temporarily stepped away from negotiations due to Cheslea’s asking price.
The Cottagers later re-entered the discussions, leaving the player in a state of uncertainty regarding his club choice. Even though he had more talks with Fulham, he felt a greater familiarity with Steve Cooper at Forest.
Final hours to sign Chalobah
Hudson-Odoi was not the only Chelsea academy player Forest had shortlisted. They also submitted a £25 million bid for Trevoh Chalobah, who was on the brink of joining Bayern Munich. Unfortunately, the Bundesliga window closed before a deal could be finalized.
It is also unlikely that Chalobah will proceed with Forest, given that Chelsea has set an asking price of £50 million for the player. In addition, Chalobah was only inclined to consider a move to Bayern Munich or else remain at the Bridge.
