Manchester United – currently sitting eighth in the EPL table – have had a mediocre start to their domestic season, despite bringing much-needed reinforcements. The English outfit has somehow failed to hit top gear and is already looking frail in their bid to lift silverware.

Now according to a report from A Bola, Manchester United have been backed to sign another goalkeeper this winter – Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa.

During the recently concluded summer transfer window, Manchester United was compelled to part ways with David De Gea due to his inability to reach an agreement on a new contract.

De Gea’s departure necessitated the search for a new goalkeeper, and after extensive negotiations with Inter Milan, they successfully secured the services of their no.1, Andre Onana.

Tough start for new Manchester United goalie

Onana has not been at his best since arriving at Old Trafford and the Cameroon internaitonal has come in for heavy criticism, with many pundits questioning his quality.

It’s crucial to note that the 29-year-old played a significant role for the Nerazzuri last season and was a member of the Inter Milan team that reached the Champions League final in June.

Portuguese goalkeeper Costa was reportedly one of the prime targets for the Red Devils this summer, but the club ultimately leaned towards Onana during the transfer window.

With the winter transfer window set to start in early January, Erik Ten Hag’s side could well enter the market for the Porto superstar.

To date, there has been no official confirmation about talks, but if Manchester United officially makes a bid for Costa this winter, we can expect to gain more clarity.

The obvious question is: should Onana worry about this move?

The answer is no. Onana should not worry about his current starting spot.

While the Cameroonian goalkeeper might have experienced a somewhat uncertain beginning at Old Trafford, this shouldn’t deter the former Inter Milan standout from realizing his full potential at Manchester United.
