Marc Guéhi is at a point that could define his career. At 25, the Crystal Palace defender is one of the most valuable players in the Premier League and is starting to carefully weigh his next move. Interest from top clubs is real, and the strongest of them is Liverpool. The Englishman is under contract until June 2026 and has no plans to extend it, which puts him on the radar of teams looking to strengthen their backline with a ready, reliable, and fast-rising name.

Real Madrid had considered signing him, but his salary demands and signing bonus made the deal unfeasible. The Spanish club had been assessing other options such as Upamecano, who now appears to have a verbal agreement with Los Blancos. Guéhi, however, has never shown any rush to leave the Premier League. He understands there’s still room for growth in England and knows his recent performances only reinforce that.

Real Madrid looked elsewhere

Real Madrid had indeed looked into him, but the salary and signing bonus requests were too steep, making a move practically impossible. The club had also analyzed other alternatives like Upamecano, who reportedly has a verbal deal with Madrid. Guéhi, on the other hand, has stayed patient. He believes he still has plenty to achieve in England and that his current form is proof of that.

Guéhi has become a central piece in a Crystal Palace team that shocked the country. The club lifted the FA Cup and also claimed the Community Shield, remarkable feats for a side long seen as a mid-table outfit. The defender was one of the key figures in those triumphs, showing leadership and consistency in a squad that, on paper, looked limited. Playing for a team outside the traditional giants, he managed to draw attention through performance and reliability alone.

Liverpool’s pursuit and Bayern’s growing interest

Liverpool now looks like the most likely destination. The club came close to signing him in the last transfer window, but Crystal Palace blocked the move after failing to find a replacement. This time, the situation is different. Guéhi wants to take the next step, and Palace knows it will be tough to hold on to him. Head coach Arne Slot is determined to strengthen his defense and sees the Englishman as an ideal fit for the new phase of the team.

Bayern Munich is also keeping tabs on him. The German club is exploring defensive options in case Kim Min-jae leaves, and with Upamecano now seemingly on his way to Real Madrid, Guéhi has become an even more appealing target. The idea is to challenge Liverpool for his signature, although the Premier League project currently gives the English side an edge. Still, with Harry Kane already in the squad, Guéhi might view the Bavarians differently.

The next transfer window is set to heat up, and wherever Marc Guéhi ends up, it’s clear his next move will shape not only his own career but also the plans of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
