First half to take control

Right from the opening whistle, Milan showed no intention of leaving any room for surprises. The team entered focused, seeking control of the game through possession and fluid circulation. In the 19th minute, Álvaro Morata opened the scoring in a play that exemplified what is expected of an experienced forward: precision and composure. Taking advantage of an assist from Emerson Royal, Morata finished confidently and delivered the first blow to Empoli’s defense.

Morata's goal also ended a personal five-game drought without finding the net, a response that couldn't have come at a better time. From then on, Milan had complete control of the pace of the game, and Empoli tried to exploit gaps for a response. However, Milan's defense, headed by Thiaw and Gabbia, stood solid to block the opponents' advance and give goalkeeper Maignan peace of mind.

As half-time was getting close, Tijjani Reijnders made a mark. In the 44 minutes, he made it two-nil for Milan as he was assisted by Pulisic. The second goal killed the game and took away the chances of an immediate comeback by Empoli.

Absolute control in the second half

Milan emerged for the second half determined, not just to see out the result, but to make the difference even wider. Even as Empoli attempted substitutions to try to get a leg up and change the tempo of the game, Rossoneri remained in pole position. In the 69th minute, it was Reijnders again - this time with a classy long-range finish to seal matters. Again, Fofana did the assist to show the really fine work Milan had done from midfield all through the game.

While the attack shone, the defense remained solid. Maignan once again ensured a clean sheet.

Individual highlights: Morata and Reijnders

Álvaro Morata and Tijjani Reijnders were protagonists of a Milan team which showed maturity and efficiency. Morata didn't only score, but he put in work up front that distracted defenders to free up his teammates.

Reijnders, on the other hand, had a standout game. His two goals elevate him to a different level, showing that he can be decisive in key moments. The performance of the Rossoneri’s number 14, who has already equaled his goal tally from last season, is a positive sign for the fans.

A defense that makes the difference

While the attack did its job, Milan's defense was impeccable. This was the second straight clean sheet of the season, something that hadn't happened since March 2024. Thiaw-Gabbia supported by Maignan were able to avoid any real chances of Empoli re-entering the game.

Table impact and future expectations

With the victory, Milan reached 22 points but remains in seventh place, out of the European competition zone. Despite the positive outcome, the team still needs to be more consistent to play up to the expectations of their fans. A club with Milan's history and stature cannot live with mid-table positions.

But the performance against Empoli showed that there is scope for improvement. Solidity in defense, efficiency in attack, and balance in midfield-the Rossoneri have everything to aim for more. Now the difficult task is to make this performance a winning streak.
