Brentford have won just one of their last 13 meetings with Arsenal, winless in seven away games against the Gunners, dating back 87 years, albeit they've drawn two of their last three at the Emirates.

Arsenal vs Brentford preview

After dropping points on Sunday, there is little margin for error as Arsenal face two more key clashes this week. At the weekend, the Gunners could only draw 1-1 with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, despite the fact the Blues were reduced to ten men shortly before half time. The ten-man hosts took the lead via a corner just after the interval, only for a towering Mikel Merino header to level things up soon after, but Mikel Arteta's team were unable to find that all-important winner in West London.

While this feels like an opportunity missed, context is required. The draw comes at the end of a taxing week, in which the Gunners comfortably beat both Tottenham and both Bayern Munich at home. Meantime, Arsenal start the week five points clear at the top of the Premier League, a scenario every Gooner surely would've taken before a ball was kicked. Now though, both here and then at Villa Park on Saturday, it is vital that Arteta's team collect maximum points, so will they do just that?

Brentford meantime will be no push-overs, currently tenth, aiming to get into Europe for the very first time. All the drama from their clash with Burnley was reserved for the final nine minutes, with Igor Thiago breaking the deadlock via a penalty, only for the Clarets to equalise with a spot-kick of their own. Nevertheless, late goals from Thiago and then Dango Ouattara saw them snatch a 3-1 victory.

At home, Keith Andrews' side have now secured three successive victories, beaten only by Manchester City in front of their own supporters thus far. On the road however, it's a different story, given that the Bees have lost five of six outings to date, the sole exception a 2-0 win over a hapless West Ham in October. Nevertheless, Brentford will believe they can end Arsenal's 17-match unbeaten streak in this London derby on Wednesday night.

Arsenal team news

The headline team news ahead of Sunday's clash was that William Saliba had picked up a knock in training so missed out. With the Frenchman unlikely to be risked, Piero Hincapié is set to once again partner Cristhian Mosquera at the back, with Gabriel also sidelined more long-term.

At right-back, Jurriën Timber badly appears to need a rest, so could Benjamin White start a Premier League game for the first time since the opening day at Old Trafford?

In attack, there's still no Kai Havertz while Leandro Trossard is a doubt, but Noni Madueke, Martin Ødegaard and Viktor Gyökeres all came off the bench at Stamford Bridge, with Gabriel Jesus an unused substitute, hoping to feature for the first time since rupturing his ACL on 12 January.

Now that he has forward options, it will be interesting to see how many chances Mikel Arteta makes. Lastly, Riccardo Calafiori will sit out Saturday's trip to Villa Park if cautioned.

Arsenal predicted lineup vs Brentford: (4-3-3): Raya, White, Mosquera, Hincapié, Calafiori; Zubimendi, Rice, Ødegaard; Saka, Madueke, Gyökeres.

Bukayo Saka has six goals to his name this season, bagging one goal and four assists across his last five starts against Brentford, so can he increase this tally?

Keith Andrews often switches to a back five in big matches, so Kristoffer Ajer could return to defence, albeit this would mean weekend scorer Dango Ouattara would begin the night as a substitute.

Elsewhere, Mathias Jensen started a Premier League match for the first time since 13 September against Chelsea on Saturday, but Yehor Yarmoliuk could return at Jordan Henderson's partner.

Nathan Collins and Kevin Schade will sit out Saturday's visit to Tottenham if cautioned.

Brentford predicted lineup vs Arsenal: (5-3-2): Kelleher; Kayode, Collins, van den Berg, Ajer, Hickey; Henderson, Yarmolyuk, Damsgaard; Schade, Thiago.

Igor Thiago's double against Burnley took his tally to 11 Premier League goals for the season, only Erling Braut Håland has more, so can the Brazilian dent Arsenal's title aspirations here?
