With an eye on the free agent market, Barcelona reportedly see an opportunity with Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have compiled list of players who will be free agents in 2025 and have added Alphonso Davies who is going to be coveted by a number of high-profile teams in Europe.

Other players on that list include Bayer Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah, Atletico Madrid's Reinildo and Lille's Jonathan David.

Davies had been previously linked with a move to Real Madrid. One of the reasons being that Los Blancos can afford to pay Davies' wages. The Canadian left-back is likely to want a bump in pay, complicating things should Barcelona want to sign him.

Despite having Alejandro Balde as their starting left-back, Barcelona believe Davies could significcantly improve the side. It would also bring some much needed competition to that position. Balde spent last season out with an injury and despite being back fit, Barcelona want to see a jump in quality that they've yet to see.

The hope for the Catalan side is that they see it under Hansi Flick who has a positive effect already on a number of players on the squad. Should Balde not be able to, however, Barcelona would feel more secure with someone like Davies as a potential replacement. When they've had to rest Balde, Flick has opted to use Gerard Martin who is a La Masia product but still not ready for consistent first team action.

At the same time, given their financial situation, Barcelona cannot afford to get in a bidding war with other clubs like Real Madrid. The Catalan side need to be careful with where they spend their money.

Is it a smart financial decision to tie up a significant amount of funds on a left-back?

What about a replacement for Robert Lewandowski?

Are they going to make another attempt at Nico Williams?

Those are only some of the questions Deco and president Joan Laporta are going to have to ask themselves if they do decide to go after Davies.
