Luis Díaz is virtually ready to make Bayern Munich his destination for the 2025/26 season. According to German newspaper Bild, the Colombian forward has agreed on salary conditions with the club, on a contract that will pay him €14 million a year. Bayern's transfer to Liverpool should cost around €80 million.
With that, Bayern has pre-empted Barcelona in signing one of the Premier League's most valued assets. Were that to occur, it would be a deliberate and premeditated move by the German outfit, more or less openly stating a need to restore itself to the top tier of European clubs.
Bayern set course into a new direction after Nico Williams
Díaz's path to Munich entered the limelight following the official confirmation by Athletic Bilbao regarding the extension of Nico Williams' contract. The Spanish striker had been Bayern's main target in the ongoing transfer window, but his reluctance to depart from the Basque side made the German team shift its attention. Thereafter, Luis Díaz was on the radar. With intense competition from Barcelona, Bayern moved swiftly, came to an agreement on the player, and is now in straightforward negotiations with Liverpool.
Luis Díaz has been Europe's top clubs' target for a while. Since switching to English football back in 2022, the Colombian striker has been a permanent inclusion in transfer rumors. Today at 28 years old, he is on the cusp of a massive change in his life. With 148 appearances, 41 goals, and 23 assists for Liverpool, he boasts a superb Premier League CV to take with him. If the transfer goes through at €80 million, it would be one of Liverpool's biggest sales in a sequence of recent years.
The signing is Bayern's declaration of short-term ambition
The transfer agreement between Bayern and the player has already been completed. The next thing to do is negotiate terms with Liverpool. The English club has awareness of the interest, is aware of the figures, and has the final say. The negotiation will not be long in coming. Bayern want to complete the deal at the earliest so that the player can prepare for preseason. The notion is that, if negotiations go ahead, the announcement should be made before the end of July.
Selecting Díaz reaffirms Bayern's short-term objective of once again being in the limelight in Europe. The club is aware of the fact that it requires players willing to contribute from the get-go. The previous season's Champions League campaign was less than expected, and domestically too, its superiority has come under question. For this reason, seasoned international targets are assuming precedence.
