Brentford are unbeaten in seven meetings with Bournemouth, dating back to 2021 when they dumped them out of the EFL Championship play-offs. The Bees are targeting a third successive victory at Dean Court, despite having only won one of their 12 previous visits to Dorset.

Bournemouth vs Brentford preview

These two finished ninth and tenth in the Premier League last season, both accumulating 56 points, but one will fall at the first hurdle of this season's Carabao Cup. Of the two, Bournemouth have been more impressive to start the new campaign. Antoine Semenyo's sublime double seeming had the Cherries set to draw with Liverpool on opening night, only to concede twice right at the death.

Then, on Saturday, Andoni Iraola's side did managed to get off the mark; Marcus Tavernier's goal after just four minutes enough to defeat Wolves in Dorset. Bournemouth were firmly in European contention last season, before fading towards the end, hoping to better, what was, a club-record finish and points tally. In the EFL Cup though, the Cherries do have room for improvement, getting no further than round four since 2019, dumped out at this stage by West Ham 12 months ago.

Well, if it is a team with a poor League Cup record you're after, look no further than Brentford. The Bees reached the Carabao Cup quarter-finals during their first Premier League campaign, before suffering back-to-back exits in round three. In fairness, last year, they did get to the quarter-finals again, defeating Colchester, Leyton Orient and Sheffield Wednesday, before defeat at Newcastle.

Having said all of that, it is now the start of a new era in West London, with Keith Andrews having replaced Thomas Frank, a huge void to fill. Well, many were concerned on Brentford's behalf when, on the opening weekend, the Bees were demolished by Nottingham Forest, 3-0 down by the interval. However, Andrews' side responded impressively at the weekend, beating Aston Villa 1-0 in their home opener, with Dango Ouattara marking his debut by being the match-winner. So, will the Bees now reach round three, or can the Cherries make home advantage count in the Carabao Cup?

Bournemouth team news

Midfielder Lewis Cook remains sidelined, but Ryan Christie did make his return off the bench at the weekend, a major boost, so could he come into the lineup this time?

Elsewhere, new signing Amine Adli made his debut off the bench against Wolves, so he and fellow new winger, the recently rebranded, Ben Gannon Doak could both start this EFL Cup tie.

Bournemouth predicted lineup vs Brentford: (4-3-3): Petrović, Araújo, Hill, Diakité, Soler; Scott, Christie, Doak, Kluivert, Adli; Junior Kroupi.

Bournemouth player to watch vs Brentford

Teenaged striker Eli Junior Kroupi has come off the bench during both Premier League matches so far. Having scored 23 goals for Lorient in Ligue 2 last season, will he impress if handed a first start for the Cherries?

Brentford team news

Keith Andrews remains without Ethan Pinnock and Vitaly Janelt due to injury, while Brentford's record Premier League goalscorer Yoane Wissa remains on strike, seeking to force through an exit.

Jordan Henderson, a two-times League Cup winner, came into midfield at the weekend, chosen over new recruit Antoni Milambo, but Andrews does now have options from which to chose.

Brentford predicted lineup vs Bournemouth: (4-5-1): Kelleher; Hickey, Ajer, van den Berg, Henry; Jensen, Henderson, Ouattara, Damsgaard, Fábio Carvalho; Thiago.

Brentford player to watch vs Bournemouth

Having scored on his Brentford debut at the weekend, Dango Ouattara will quickly come up against his former side here. The Burkina Faso international netted 11 times for Bournemouth, so will he net against them here?

Bournemouth vs Brentford prediction

This tie could very much go either-way, but goals should be guaranteed, and we are backing Bournemouth to progress, albeit a shootout may be required: Bournemouth 2-1 Brentford.
