Dominant from the first second to the last

Brentford wasted no time in imposing their rhythm. As early as five minutes into the game, Kevin Schade latched onto a sublime pass from Damsgaard and fired a precise shot to put the Bees ahead. From that point on, it was all about relentless pressure, solid defending, and sharp attacks.

Bryan Mbeumo stole the show. The Cameroonian forward scored twice and provided an assist as he dictated the pace of the game in the second half, extending the lead with a powerful strike before coolly converting a penalty. "This was very, very close to perfection. We defended well, created countless chances, and could've easily scored more", Thomas Frank said post-match.

Southampton in shambles

While Brentford shone, poor Southampton had a nightmare outing. Rooted at the bottom of the table with just six points from 20 matches, the Saints struggled for defensive lapses and a lack of creativity. Ivan Jurić, Southampton's coach, did not mince words: "They were better in everything. We're psychologically down, but we need to come together and try to improve”.

The stats told the story of woes for the Saints. This was their 16th defeat of the season, equalling the worst record for points total by a team across 20 Premier League games. A day of frustration for the supporters with very little to get them off their seats.

Mbeumo and Co make history

Mbeumo was the undoubted star of the show. His double drew him level with Salah and Isak for the most goals scored in an individual Premier League game this season. Yoane Wissa also etched his name into the history books, matching Ivan Toney as Brentford's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League, with 36 goals.

Kevin Schade shone, too. The young German forward has now had a direct hand in five goals in his last five matches, growing in confidence in Thomas Frank's system. His contribution means Brentford have finally ended a nine-match winless run on their travels.

A performance to inspire

With 27 points, standing in 10th place, this commanding win should be the point at which Brentford gets into some consistency in the season. It was their largest since 2021 and another timely reminder that the Bees possess the muscle to compete at this level even on the road.
