In the same week that it announced Carlo Ancelotti as its new coach (even before his departure from Real Madrid was confirmed), the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) suffered a huge blow with the fall of president Ednaldo Rodrigues via a court decision in Rio de Janeiro.

Judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zéfiro, of the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice, ordered the immediate removal of the president of the CBF, who was responsible for directly intermediating all the steps involved in hiring Carlo Ancelotti since the first contact was made in 2023. For the time being, CBF vice-president Fernando Sarney is in charge.

Fernando Sarney is expected to call for new elections at the CBF "as soon as possible", but there is no one currently for next elections. In the last elections, where Ednaldo Rodrigues received the maximum acclaim from all the Serie A and Serie B clubs, Ronaldo tried to launch himself as a candidate, but did not receive the necessary support to make his candidacy a reality.

Meanwhile, president Ednaldo Rodrigues, who received the news during the FIFA Congress in Asuncion (Paraguay), is expected to appeal the decision in Brazil's higher courts.

Could Carlo Ancelotti's deal with the CBF take a twist?

The contract signed between Carlo Ancelotti and the Brazil national team, for the time being, remains valid as planned and no changes are being envisaged at the moment. However, it's worth remembering that the Italian coach gave up on swapping the LaLiga club for the CBF in 2023 after Ednaldo Rodrigues had problems with the courts in Brazil.

Ednaldo Rodrigues returned to power at the CBF because of an agreement signed by five leaders, ending a lawsuit challenging the electoral process and allowing a new election to be held in March. However, the courts have pointed out, based on expert investigations, that one of the signatures on this document was forged. We must therefore wait for updates on the case, including Ancelotti's possible withdrawal from taking over the Brazilian team.
