Chelsea didn't expect to experience a weekend of great emotions and changes to their season in just a few hours, but the 2-0 win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge turned out to be the decisive factor in the last-minute cancellation of a loan move to Bayern Munich.
Under Enzo Maresca, the Blues didn't have a good first half and the performance was underwhelming with few chances for either side, with Fulham even having a goal disallowed by VAR review in the 21st minute when Brazilian Rodrigo Muniz was fouled during the move that led to young King's goal.
Despite struggling to create goalscoring opportunities, Chelsea still managed to go into the dressing room with the lead due to a set-piece in injury time. Enzo Fernández took a corner and João Pedro headed in to open the scoring at Stamford Bridge, showing once again how decisive the Brazilian striker will be for the Blues' success throughout the season, and this is good news for Carlo Ancelotti with a view to the 2026 World Cup.
Chelsea had good news and bad news in the second half
At the start of the second half, Chelsea came back onto the pitch very keen to show that they wanted to clinch victory straight away, and it only took a few minutes for a penalty to be awarded by the VAR in favor of the Blues, interpreting that Sessegnon had interfered with the trajectory of the ball inside the area with a handball. Enzo Ferández took the spot-kick with great aplomb and left the Blues in the clear.
There was still an opportunity for Estêvão to score another goal in the current Premier League season when he made an individual run from the right into the middle of the park and shot firmly on target, but goalkeeper Leno was alert and made a good save. The Blues could have gone on to win even more, but what really marked this victory was the injury to Liam Delap, who could be out of action for eight weeks.
