Crystal Palace are preparing to feature in a major European competition for the first time ever, but are set to do so with a threadbare squad, so this could be a tough campaign for Oliver Glasner's team.

What happened at Crystal Palace last season?
Back in May, Crystal Palace enjoyed the most famous day in their entire history, but it has been a summer of off-field turbulence and turmoil since then. Last season, Crystal Palace won major silverware for the very first time, upsetting the odds to do it, defeating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup Final at Wembley; Eberechi Eze the match-winner, as was Dean Henderson, who saved a crucial first half penalty. A day no Palace supporter, old or young, will ever forget.
How will Crystal Palace do this season?
This triumph should've seen the Eagles earn a place in the Europa League, but they have been demoted to the Conference League for breaching UEFA's multi-club ownership rules. This ruling has been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport so, even though Palace will compete in Europe for the very first time, they'll do so angry rather than jubilant.

This season though did start on a positive note for Oliver Glasner's team, defeating Liverpool on penalties in Sunday's FA Community Shield. Palace twice equalised at Wembley, Jean-Philippe Mateta and then Ismaïla Sarr both on target, before prevailing in the subsequent shootout; Henderson the hero again, before youngster Justin Devenny lashed home the decisive kick.
Right now, having barely signed anyone, Palace's team looks identical to that of last season because, crucially, they've not sold anyone key yet either. Captain Marc Guéhi, Eberechi Eze and others all have plenty of suitors, but Glasner will be determined to keep hold of them, while recognising he needs more depth ahead of a Conference League adventure, one that'll begin as soon as next Thursday.

Balancing domestic and continental commitments will not be easy, so it is tough to predict how well Palace will do this season, with the window still open, but they always just finish 12th don't they?
