What happened at Everton last season?

It is out with the old and in with the new for Evertonians everywhere. Last season was the Blues' final campaign at Goodison Park, their home since 1892, but it looked like being a catastrophic year, given that they sat 16th when Sean Dyche was sacked in January.

As Everton look forward to the future, they turned to an historic figure from their past, re-hiring David Moyes 12 years after he left for Manchester United. Well, this proved to be a stroke of genius, as the Toffees concluded the campaign by winning eight of 18 Premier League fixtures, losing only three, ending up 13th, a whopping 23 points above the relegation zone. Many feel it is fitting that Moyes will be the man to lead Everton into their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock, but Hill Dickinson Stadium will only feel like home if they win matches, so the pressure will be on.

How will Everton do this season?

Expectations for Everton this season are not sky-high, are they ever, so another campaign of consolidation, steering well clear if any relegation battle, is probably the height of their aspirations. Plenty of players have left the club this summer, most notably Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucouré who, between them, made 439 appearances for the Blues.

Thierno Barry has arrived from Villarreal for £27m as the new centre-forward, having scored 11 goals in La Liga last season, so will he hit the ground running? Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is also an exciting addition from Chelsea, so it'll be interesting to see how he fits into David Moyes' midfield.

The Toffees commence their campaign at Elland Road, before welcoming Brighton to Bramley-Moore Dock on Sunday 24 August, desperate to commemorate the start of a new era with a win, even if this team appears pretty limited overall.
