Gian Piero Gasperini led a real revolution at Atalanta and was responsible for turning the club around, transforming the team into one of the most effective in terms of performance and beauty of play. As a result, Italian soccer took on greater prominence, even if this spell only yielded one title (UEFA Europa League).

The coach has become a benchmark by implementing a new style of play with youth development at youth level and an attacking style capable of rivaling Italy's giants. Gasperini has also developed Atalanta players who have gone on to become stars at teams like Inter Milan, Tottenham and Manchester United.

In the last six seasons, Atalanta have only occupied the top half of the table under Gasperini and have been in the Champions League qualifying zone in six seasons. For part of 2024/25, they were in first place and remained firmly in contention for the title until the last few rounds. Even so, it seems that his story at Atalanta has come to an end.

Gian Piero Gasperini to lead ambitious project at Roma

The latest reports indicate that Gian Piero Gasperini is very close to replacing Claudio Ranieri to take charge of Roma in 2025/26. The coach went to the Atalanta board to signal that there was interest from other clubs and to understand whether Atalanta were willing to renew his contract beyond one season.

Even with a successful past at Atalanta, the club surprisingly opted to change its working structure and take a step forward, allowing Gian Piero Gasperini to take over the overhaul at Roma, where he will have a good base of players ready to build his team, with the likes of Dybala in midfield and Tammy Abraham on attacking lines.

Without winning any trophies for three seasons, Roma have managed to get Gasperini very interested with 21 million euros on offer for him to be in charge of a project that has all the conditions to be a winner. And in this way, the possibility of fulfilling a mission that not even José Mourinho has managed.
