Expectations were high for Viktor Gyokeres' debut in the Premier League, and the fact that his first game was against Manchester United made the anticipation grow even more throughout the UK. The Swedish striker failed to score, but Arsenal still won this weekend's big clash and opened the season with three points.

Physical play was prevalent from the off in this clash, and because of that Arsenal ended up opening the scoring from a curious set piece. Declan Rice took a corner into the box and Saliba got in the way of Bayindir's movement for Ricardo Calafiori to deflect it almost over the goal line. It's important to note that the move was legal, as it didn't consist of a foul or direct interference against the Red Devils' goalkeeper.

Even with the lead, the game remained much more physical than the Premier League is used to, with many tight duels for possession and transitions between the teams. Despite this scenario, United almost equalized with a quick run from Dorgou, who hit a left-footed shot that hit the post. Matheus Cunha also had a good debut and often got rid of his markers, but at the end of the first half, he lacked the strength to get his shot past goalkeeper Raya.

Man United improved in the second half against Arsenal

The Red Devils came back from the break putting more pressure on Arsenal, taking advantage of the Gunners' mistakes on the counter-attack, but coach Mikel Arteta corrected this mistake with the additions of Kai Havertz and Madueke. On the other hand, Matheus Cunha continued to be the main highlight for the Red Devils with some excellent individual moves, standing out from the rest of the team.

Despite some good tactical moves throughout the game, Mbuemo only had one great chance to score and that came right at the end, when Cunha opened up on the left for Dorgu to cross, but his header ended up in a sensational save from Raya, who was once again instrumental in securing the win.
