A club more accustomed to winning titles in Germany, Bayern Munich kicked off the new European soccer season by winning the German Super Cup, bringing to 11 the number of trophies won in the competition that marks the start of the domestic calendar. Unlike in previous editions, their opponents this time were Stuttgart, but the final result ended with the Bayern captain lifting the trophy with a 2-1 victory.
Harry Kane leads Bayern’s winning start
Harry Kane showed that he is ready to be absolutely decisive in another season in Germany, where he is enjoying the best moment of his career. Bayern's first goal was scored by the British marksman, while Luis Díaz took the opportunity of scoring the second goal to pay tribute to Diogo Jota in the celebration.
The first half was marked by extreme balance in possession and Stuttgart had more shots on target than Bayern, but the Bavarians created two good chances in the opening minutes with cross attempts by Harry Kane, but the goal came via a low shot after a wrong attempt by Jaquez. Looking for a reaction in the second half, Stuttgart almost scored in the first half, but Neuer made a great save when he got one hand to Leweling's shot.
Luis Díaz secures the decisive goal
But the real frustration came minutes later from Neuer's goal-kick on the left, with Luis Díaz finishing off Gnabry's cross to score the winner. Before the final whistle, in stoppage time, Stuttgart showed resilience and went in search of a goal with Lweeling popping up in the middle of the penalty area to head home a deflected ball, reviving hopes for a few minutes.
However, Bayern Munich secured their advantage and won the title in regulation time, giving them huge confidence ahead of their opener against RB Leipzig on Friday, in the most eagerly awaited match of the Bundesliga's first round.
