Santos is close to finalizing the sale of Guilherme to the Houston Dynamo for 2.1 million dollars, and even though nothing’s signed yet, the deal is already verbally agreed on by everyone involved. The forward, who finished the season as the team’s top scorer, is on his way out at a moment when the club actually wanted to keep him, but a promise made months ago opened the door for the negotiation to move forward.

Guilherme reaches the end of a relationship that was never simple

At 30, Guilherme is in the United States on vacation while keeping a close eye on the final steps of the transfer. Even with solid numbers, like 27 goals in 94 matches and key roles in the 2024 Série B title and the 2025 Paulistão run, he never fully connected with the fans. Some stretches made it look like he’d finally settle in. Others brought criticism. That constant swing helped create the feeling that his cycle at the club was always hanging by a thread.

The front office, however, saw things differently. Santos counted on Guilherme for 2026 and viewed him as one of the more reliable pieces in the squad. The problem is that when he received offers in the middle of the year, the club asked him to stay until the end of the Brasileirão and promised it wouldn’t stand in the way if new proposals showed up later. That commitment matters now. With Houston Dynamo returning to the table and offering more than the initial 1.7 million dollar proposal, blocking the move would leave Santos in an uncomfortable spot.

Dynamo benefit greatly from the transfer

MLS has become an appealing destination for players around 30, and the chance to work in a different environment, with a more stable contract and wider exposure, makes sense for someone who lived through ups and downs at Vila Belmiro. On top of that, the Dynamo get a player who can help in physical battles, on set pieces and become a situational weapon depending on how the match unfolds.

Guilherme hasn’t signed yet, but the deal is basically done. The transfer reflects the moment both sides are living. Santos is trying to reposition itself, and the player is looking for a new phase. Each one follows a path that matches what they’ve built so far.
