Inter Miami closed out the 2025 season with an achievement that changes how MLS looks at dominant attacks. The 20 goals scored in the playoffs are more than a statistical record, they’re the portrait of a team that found answers in almost every scenario and used that momentum to claim its first MLS Cup with a 3–1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps. The postseason became a stage where the Herons didn’t just win, they controlled the tempo from start to finish, even without delivering the brilliance many expected during the regular season.

The impact of decisions and the weight of individual performances

The number stands out because it surpasses marks that felt solid. LA Galaxy reached 18 goals in 2024, and Toronto FC hit 17 in 2016. Miami went beyond those totals with room to spare. Lionel Messi piled up direct goal involvements throughout the playoffs, ending with 15 between goals and assists. That includes 6 goals and 9 decisive passes, a rare balance even for someone held to his standard. Tadeo Allende, with 9 goals, set his own record by producing the highest tally ever by a single player in one MLS postseason.

The team finished the season with 58 matches played across all competitions, the most in club history. That kind of workload doesn’t always turn into production, but Inter Miami managed to handle the wear and deliver when it mattered most.

The knockout run makes that clear. Against Nashville SC, they scored eight times in a three game series. The 4–0 result in the deciding match left no room for debate. In the Eastern Conference semifinal, a 4–0 win over FC Cincinnati on the road confirmed a level of favoritism that no longer depended on outside perception. Soon after, a 5–1 win over New York City FC secured home field for the final.

A team pushing the conversation about attacking soccer to another level

The combined total of 101 goals between the regular season and the playoffs adds another milestone to Inter Miami’s year. When a team breaks the 100 goal barrier, the discussion moves past isolated efficiency. It becomes a conversation about patterns, consistency and what can be expected when the ball reaches the players who drive the attack, along with what the Herons might bring into next season.
