Inter Miami got their season back on track during the week with a convincing 4-2 win over Montreal, with Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez scoring two goals each, an essential result to give them more confidence in the MLS and especially ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup. And after this victory, Inter Miami fans received more positive news.

One of Javier Mascheranno's most trusted players in the squad, goalkeeper Oscar Ustari has signed an extension and will stay with the Florida side for at least another year. Ustari started 16 of the team's 19 matches this season and managed six clean sheets, which is a relevant figure for the MLS campaign.

The experienced Ustari arrived at Inter Miami in September 2024 as Drake Callender's immediate backup, but took over the starting position while Callender was seriously injured playing for the United States national team, recently undergoing sports hernia surgery and being sidelined indefinitely.

Before signing for Inter Miami, Ustari played for several teams in Europe and South America, including Getafe (Spain), Sunderland (England) and Boca Juniors (Argentina). In all, he played 390 games in his career, but the determining factor in his signing was his friendship with Lionel Messi, where together they won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005 and the gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

With this contract renewal, Inter Miami is stronger for the 2025 MLS season, considering that the Herons recently added depth to the position by signing free agent goalkeeper William Yarbrough. These moves in the market are crucial for the squad to have greater peace of mind and to be able to settle in with a view to the rest of the calendar.

Miami are currently sixth in the MLS Eastern Conference standings, with a record of 7 wins, 3 losses and 5 draws (26 points). The team is still fighting for a place in the playoffs.
