Kansas City Current is rolling. With the NWSL's leading offense and second-most stingy defense, the team returns back to CPKC Stadium with momentum. Currently undefeated at home, Current has taken five in a row, and Angel City FC arrives reeling following an upset home loss to North Carolina Courage. Hard to envision anyone slowing Temwa Chawinga's offense currently.

Why is Kansas City so unbeatable at home

Since the CPKC Stadium opened in March 2024, Kansas City Current has made it every team's worst nightmare. They've amassed an impressive 21 out of 25 victories at home. Their five out of five this season, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three. Not a bad record for a team that was defensively abysmal last season, right?

Indeed, Current tends to send games to bed early, especially in the early minutes. Nearly half of the team's goals (12 of 28) have been tallied within the first 25 minutes of play.

Temwa Chawinga is every goalkeeper's worst nightmare

Temwa Chawinga does not mess around. The Malawian striker is a goal-scoring machine, plain and simple, and the numbers prove it. Already this year, she's tallied eight goals and two assists. At CPKC Stadium, where she's been untouchable on her MVP tear in the league, she is unstoppable. In 18 NWSL home appearances, she is directly involved in 21 goals (17 goals, 4 assists). But Chawinga is not the only threat defenders should be worried about. Brazilian superstar Bia Zaneratto and Michelle Cooper have been wreaking some havoc as well. Cooper particularly has a first-half goal habit, nine of her ten professional goals have come in the first half. As a group of three, they make Current’s attack look like a perfect storm.

Angel City FC face a nigh-on impossible task

Angel City visit Missouri in desperation mode. Having fallen 2-1 at home to the Courage, the team is more desperate than ever for a win. Rookie forward Riley Tiernan, the top first-year player with seven goals, is the visitors' best hope. Will it be sufficient, though?
