Kylian Mbappé just did what even Messi and Ronaldo couldn’t at his age

At only 26, the Real Madrid star has scored 395 career goals and hit 50 in 2025 alone

Kylian Mbappé has become routine at Real Madrid. And that’s exactly what makes it so absurd. Fifty goals in 2025. Fifty. It’s even more impressive when you realize he won’t turn 27 until December. No player in the 21st century has reached 395 goals this early. Not Messi. Not Cristiano Ronaldo. The Frenchman, who arrived in Madrid surrounded by expectations, needed very little time to turn everything into statistics.

Last Sunday, against Getafe, Mbappé scored the goal that sealed his 50th of the year, counting both Real Madrid and the French national team. He played 53 matches in total, 46 for the Spanish club and seven for France, with an incredible average of 0.94 goals per game. In other words, he needs just over 90 minutes to make his mark. And anyone who thinks this is just a phase is mistaken.

The new standard of excellence

It’s been a long time since Real Madrid saw someone make scoring feel so predictable. Benzema was great, Cristiano was eternal, but Mbappé managed something different, he made the fans get used to the extraordinary.

Scoring 50 goals in a year puts Mbappé on a level that even the best of his generation haven’t reached in 2025. Harry Kane and Haaland, who usually dominate the talk about goal scorers, have fallen behind. What stands out the most is his pace. The Frenchman reached the middle of the calendar year with numbers that defy logic while still adapting to life in Madrid and to the heaviest shirt in the world. Real Madrid has found Cristiano Ronaldo’s natural replacement, not in style, but in relevance.

Surpassing the impossible

Mbappé reached 395 official career goals before turning 27, breaking a record that once seemed untouchable. Messi had reached 394 before that age, and the Frenchman surpassed him playing in a tougher, more physical era with better-studied defenses.

It’s the kind of record that can’t be achieved with talent alone, but with an obsessive mindset. Born in 1998, Mbappé has become the symbol of a new generation of players who don’t wait for maturity to dominate the sport. What he’s doing at 26 is what legends used to do at 30. And even so, he plays with the ease of someone who seems to know this is only the beginning.
