Liverpool beat Tottenham 2 1 away from home and left London with more than just three points. The Premier League win carried historical weight for the hosts, as the result pushed Tottenham to their worst run of home defeats in a single calendar year, with 11 losses at home in 2025. Liverpool didn’t need a show or heavy volume. They understood the moment, used their numerical advantage and were precise when the game demanded a decision.

Liverpool take advantage of the situation and build the win

The match started tight, with few clear chances for either side. Even after Xavi Simons was sent off in the first half, the score stayed level until the break. The initial yellow card for a foul on Virgil van Dijk was reviewed by VAR and upgraded to a straight red, changing the tone of the game. From that point on, Liverpool had more territorial control, while Tottenham tried to hold on without taking extra risks.

The game found its turning point in the second half. Bradley left the field after picking up a knock, and Isak came on to lead Liverpool’s attack. He spent just 11 minutes on the pitch, but that was enough to decide it. In the 56th minute, after a contested move involving Florian Wirtz, Isak finished to open the scoring. There was no celebration, as the forward went down after the play, but the goal gave Liverpool the lead right as the game began to open up.

Ten minutes later came the decisive blow. Ekitiké beat Cristian Romero in the air inside the box and headed home after a cross that took a deflection off Djed Spence. It was the forward’s fifth goal in his last three league matches, a number that helps explain Liverpool’s efficiency in turning a man advantage into a real edge on the scoreboard.

Tottenham still had one clear chance to respond when Randal Kolo Muani struck the ball, it deflected off Milos Kerkez and crashed against the crossbar. It was the home side’s most dangerous moment before pulling one back.

Richarlison’s goal doesn’t change the outcome

In the 83rd minute, Richarlison took advantage of Liverpool’s difficulty in clearing their lines after a corner kick and scored. It was the Brazilian’s eighth goal of the 2025 26 season, keeping him as Tottenham’s top scorer over that span, with five goals in his last nine matches. The reaction, though, ended there.

In the closing minutes, Liverpool managed the result even under pressure. Alisson stepped in on a shot from Pedro Porro and also cut out a dangerous cross from Wilson Odobert. In stoppage time, things tilted further in favor of the visitors when Romero picked up a second yellow card and was sent off, leaving Tottenham with nine men.

Liverpool’s efficiency and Tottenham’s late reaction. That line sums up a game in which the visitors knew how to play the situation, scored at the right moments and walked away with a win that carries historical weight not for style, but for the impact it leaves on the table and in the numbers of their opponent.
