Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in two meetings with Liverpool, last enjoying a longer sequence in 1993. The win at Anfield last year was Forest's first there in the league since 1969, most-recently enjoying back-to-back victories on this part of Merseyside 62 years ago.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest preview

Are Liverpool in crisis once again? Last time out, the Reds were demolished 3-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad. Yes they were wrongly denied an equaliser, Virgil van Dijk's header ruled out because Andy Robertson was in an offside position, but the Sky Blues still won very easily, with Giorgi Mamardashvili's penalty save, denying Håland, one of many opportunities they squandered.

In the week leading up to this game, Arne Slot's side had beaten both Aston Villa and then Real Madrid, the latter a comprehensive 1-0 victory, at home, leading to many asserting that their crisis was over. Nevertheless, the Reds have now lost five of their last six in the league, so have slipped down to eighth, eight points adrift leaders Arenal. Their next three league opponents are West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds, which should represent an opportunity to rediscover some much needed momentum, but the Reds cannot take anyone lightly right now.

As for Nottingham Forest, they've had more managers than league victories this season, but might now be moving in the right direction. Before the international break, the Garibaldi Reds claimed their first victory since the opening weekend, fighting back from a goal down to beat Leeds 3-1 at the City Ground. Ibrahim Sangaré equalised soon after the deadlock had been broke, before Morgan Gibbs-White fired them in front, with Elliot Anderson securing victory via a late spot-kick.

This takes the Tricky Trees' points tally up to nine, still in the relegation zone, albeit now just one point from safety. Sean Dyche has therefore collected four points from his three Premier League games in charge, as well as four points from two Europa League fixtures, beating Porto and then playing out a dull goalless draw with Sturm Graz in Austria.

Back in January 2021, Dyche's Burnley became the first visiting team to win a Premier League match at Anfield for 1,369 days, almost four years. Forest meantime were the only away side beat the champions last season, so can the bottom three dwellers add to Liverpool's misery on Saturday?

Jeremie Frimpong remains sidelined but goalkeeper Alisson is edging back to fitness, so will he return, or will Giorgi Mamardashvili continue to deputise?

Meantime, one of the key talking points at the Etihad was the fact that club-record signing Alexander Isak did not even get off the bench, not featuring in any of the last three Premier League matches due to an adductor issue, but surely he'll play some part here.

Lastly, Conor Bradley and Dominik Szoboszlai would both miss next Sunday's trip to West Ham if cautioned.

Liverpool predicted lineup vs Nottingham Forest: (4-3-3): Mamardashvili; Bradley, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Wirtz; Salah, Ekitiké, Wirtz.

Omari Hutchinson's impressive cameo off the bench against Leeds could earn him a start, while Taiwo Awoniyi may come in to lead the line, displacing Igor Jesus. Lastly, Neco Williams is a caution away from a ban.

Nottingham Forest predicted lineup vs Liverpool: (4-3-3): Sels; Savona, Milenković, Murillo, Williams; Domínguez, Anderson, Sangaré; Ndoye, Gibbs-White, Awoniyi.
