The end of the second round of the Premier League was guaranteed to be thrilling on Monday with the eagerly awaited clash between Newcastle and Liverpool. The Reds even suffered with an extra player, but still won an epic 3-2 victory, showing more and more why they are once again favorites for the title.
From the opening whistle, Newcastle showed plenty of speed in their attacking transitions with the mission of attacking the back of the opposition's defensive system, but the Reds pushed forward their lines and disrupted the opposition's passing game on several occasions, making this a good game on a tactical level.
Both teams were very vertical in this tactical duel and even more aggressive without the ball, but it was Liverpool who opened the scoring, in Newcastle's best moment of the first half. Gravenberch received the ball in the middle, brought it out to his right and hit it from outside the box between Bruno Guimarães' legs, with Schar also deflecting it before it went in.
Newcastle's situation looked to have become extremely difficult just before the break, when Gordon clattered into Van Dijk and was sent off after a VAR review. And right on the stroke of half-time, Ekitiké started the move down the middle until he opened up left-footed for Gakpo, with the Dutchman being blocked and rolling the ball back for Eikitiké to hit into the corner and score Liverpool's second.

Newcastle were brave and daring, but Liverpool were unforgiving
The Reds seemed to be managing the lead very well, but an unassuming ball from Livramento into the penalty area seemed to be under Kerkez's control, but Bruno Guimarães came on as a surprise element in the penalty area and reduced Newcastle's deficit. With the strong support of the fans, Trippier almost scored an Olympic goal and Liverpool had to reduce their intensity by keeping possession.
Joelinton left the field crying after being fouled in midfield and caused another negative impact for the Magpies, but a new unexpected reaction came near the end of added time, when Pope took a free-kick in attack and the ball was left for Osula to tap past the goalkeeper to equalize. Newcastle went in search of victory with a 4-3-2 after the sending-off, but they paid dearly for their boldness and Liverpool punished them in exemplary fashion, when Salah surged down the right and played a low pass to Ngumoha, who surged into the box and sealed victory for the reigning champions.
