Manchester City's two previous encounters with Asian opposition have seen them score nine unanswered goals.

Al-Hilal's sole previous meeting with an English club saw them defeated 1-0 by Chelsea in the Club World Cup semi-finals in February 2022 in Abu Dhabi.

Manchester City vs Al-Hilal preview

Only one team won all three group games at this summer's Club World Cup and that was Manchester City, with many now making them favourites to become world champions. The Sky Blues swatted aside Wydad Castablanca 2-0 and then Al Ain 6-0 to commence their Club World Cup campaign, but still required a victory in their final group game to snatch top spot. Well, they did just that, and with some style too, demolishing Juventus 5-2 in Florida on Thursday; Jérémy Doku, Erling Braut Håland and Phil Foden all scoring, before an absolute rocket by Savinho secured the points.

Manchester City won the Club World Cup for the very first time in December 2023, while Pep Guardiola is the most-successful manager in the competition's history with four triumphs to his name. Now, Man City have landed on the easier side of the draw; Bayern Munich, Juventus, Real Madrid, PSG and Borussia Dortmund are all on the opposite side. Should they win here, the Citizens will face Inter or Fluminense in the quarter-finals, with Benfica, Chelsea, Palmeiras or Botafogo awaiting in the semis. Thus, most expect Man City to be too strong for any of them, as well as here too.

So, can Al-Hilal pull off an enormous shock at Camping World Stadium? Well, the Blue Waves have certainly shown they are capable at this tournament to date. First, Simone Inzaghi's side held Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in Miami, with Rúben Neves equalising from the penalty spot, before Yassine Bounou saved a last-gasp spot-kick to preserve the point. The Saudi Side then drew 0-0 with RB Salzburg in Washington DC, the less said about that game the better, keeping their hopes alive.

So, requiring a victory on Thursday night, they got just that; goals from Salem Al-Dawsari and then Marcos Leonardo at the death enough to overcome Pachuca 2-0 in Nashville. Al-Hilal have just endured a disappointing campaign, finishing second in the Saudi Pro League as well as being eliminated in the AFC Champions League semi-finals by eventual winners Al-Ahli. Nevertheless, this side is jam-packed full of top-class players, but will Man City prove a bridge too far in Orlando?

Manchester City team news

Pep Guardiola has heavily rotated his team throughout the group stages, making 11 changes against Al Ain with 26 members of his squad featuring overall. Rico Lewis' red card against Wydad AC means he is still suspended, while Rodri started for the first time since rupturing his ACL in September on Thursday, hoping to see more action here.

Erling Braut Håland came off the bench to score against Juventus, surely set to lead the line from the start here, while new signings Rayan Aït-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki have all impressed.

Manchester City predicted lineup vs Al-Hilal: (4-3-3): Ederson; Nunes, Rúben Dias, Gvardiol, Aït-Nouri; Reijnders, Silva, Cherki, Savinho, Doku; Håland.

Erling Braut Håland bagged the 300th senior goal of his club and international career on Thursday, coming in just 371 appearances, so will he fire Man City through to the quarter-finals?

Al-Hilal team news

Aleksandar Mitrović is still yet to feature at this Club World Cup due to a calf injury, so Marcos Leonardo, who scored the second against Pachuca on Thursday, will continue to lead the line.

If you've not seen Al-Hilal this summer yet, Simone Inzaghi's side is full of familiar faces, including right-back João Cancelo, who made 154 appearances for Man City. Inzaghi named an identical XI for all three group games, a trend that's expected to continue in Florida.

Al-Hilal predicted lineup vs Manchester City: (4-3-3): Bounou; Cancelo, Koulibaly, Al-Tombakti, Lodi; Neves, Milinković-Savić, S Al-Dawsari; Malcom, N Al-Dawsari, Leonardo.

Rúben Neves converted the spot-kick against Real Madrid on matchday one; he's lost seven of his previous ten meetings with Man City, but will be key to Al-Hilal's chances of victory here.

Manchester City vs Al-Hilal prediction

We cannot see beyond a Manchester City victory in Orlando. The Sky Blues have scored 13 goals this summer already, and will be simply too strong for their Saudi opponents, who are no push-overs, but surely will not be able to live with Pep Guardiola's team on Monday: Manchester City 3-1 Al-Hilal.
