Manchester United remains concerned about strengthening its squad in the upcoming transfer window, thinking hard about the possibility of solving specific problems and putting Ruben Amorim's mind at ease. For this reason, the Red Devils are preparing to make a formal offer for Danish player Victor Froholdt, FC Porto, even before the official transfer period opens.
According to the Spanish press, United are looking to test the Portuguese club's determination to release 19-year-old Froholdt, who has an €85 million release clause. The club's priority for the next transfer window is to strengthen their midfield, as this may be the weakness of their squad. After spending heavily on forwards, the Red Devils are said to be looking to focus on new midfielders from January onwards.
Other targets Manchester United is evaluating in the market
There are other market opportunities that Man United also intends to explore. Among the targets are Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton, but there are difficulties both in reaching the asking prices and in convincing the clubs involved to negotiate. At the moment, United faces problems in midfield: Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes are not seen as the ideal duo for the coming years, and there are uncertainties about the future of Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte (whose performance is a concern).
Given the scenario described above, it would be necessary to sign a new midfielder, and Victor Froholdt appears to be an option. The player has already attracted attention with good performances for Porto, which puts him on the radar of big clubs. The proposal, however, will be difficult: in addition to the €85 million clause in his contract until 2030, FC Porto would also face competition from teams such as Tottenham and would demand a high price.
Finally, United could then make a "trial" offer, as a way of testing the waters, to see if the deal is viable, although Arsenal are also interested. However, apparently to a lesser extent than the others involved, providing some peace of mind for the negotiations to continue.
