Manchester United has made its purchase of Benjamin Sesko, a 22-year-old Slovenian center forward who was under contract with RB Leipzig, official. The purchase is valued at €76.5 million guaranteed, up to €8.5 million in bonuses. The contract is for a term through June 2030, and his club undoubtedly has a short-term future on its horizon where he is a cornerstone piece.
Talking about the relocation, Sesko was certain why he was drawn. “Manchester United’s history is, naturally, very special, but where I get most excited is the future. When I was talking to the projet, all people were saying me that actually, all foundations are laid, all is good, and this team is already ready to continue to work and compete again for the biggest trophies soon,” he said.
He also referred to the reception he’s received since joining. “Right from my first day, I could sense the passion and camaraderie the club has fostered. I can’t wait to begin learning from Ruben and getting to know my teammates to realize the prosperity we all know together, as a unit, we can realize the clubs is eager to accomplish together.”
Competition in the market and inside the deal
He was outbid by Manchester United, who overtook the bid from Newcastle, standing at €75 million and €5 million on add-ons. The superior bid, together with the proposal on the table by the project United, was all he needed to be persuaded to be where he wanted, which was Old Trafford.
Sesko comes off a strong season with RB Leipzig, where he scored 21 goals and provided six assists across official competitions. His form put him firmly on the radar of several Premier League clubs, sparking a heated race before United got the deal over the line.
Signings that show a shift in strategy
Signing events where a strategy is changed Sesko is the fourth official arrival for United this transfer campaign. Before, the club made United a €74.2 million purchase of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton, a €75 million acquisition of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, and a €4 million purchase of Diego León from Cerro Porteño. As a whole, all these deals point to a strong push towards bolstering attack and adding depth before next season.
