The European transfer market is showing no signs of slowing down, with one of the names being talked about most in recent times behind the scenes being Marcus Rashford. Having lost his place under coach Ruben Amorim, the Manchester United forward has reportedly moved very close to joining Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season, with the option of a permanent transfer also on the table, depending on his performances in Birmingham.

Opportunity knocking for Rashford?

It's a tough period in Rashford's career. From being one of the key players for United in the previous seasons, the No. 10 has lost his place and is no longer in the plans of the new coaching staff. His last game was on December 12 against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League. Since then, he has been little more than a luxury bench option.

Going on loan to Aston Villa is probably going to be what he needs to help him get confidence and find his form. At 27, Rashford still has much to offer, and a change of scenery may be in order for him to get back to his best.

What does Villa get out of this signing?

In turn, Aston Villa wants more attacking options after Jhon Durán has left. Rashford arrives as an already-made player. Coach Unai Emery is strengthening his squad in order not to lose Villa's strong position in the Premier League and in the Champions League, where the club has already passed directly into the round of 16.

According to reports from the English media, Villa will cover a sizeable chunk of Rashford's salary and incorporate performance-related clauses into the agreement. If the player performs accordingly, then a purchase option might be triggered, allowing the club to retain his services permanently.

Barcelona, Milan, and Borussia Dortmund were in the race

Prior to agreeing to terms with Aston Villa, Rashford was also linked to other European giants. Barcelona and Milan were keen on signing him, but talks broke down due to the financial problems of these clubs. Borussia Dortmund also emerged as a possible destination, but the player's high wages became a major obstacle for the German side.

What to expect from Rashford at Villa?

Should the transfer go through, the big question will be how Rashford fits into Unai Emery's system. He has always played on the left wing for United, though he can be utilised as a center forward.

If he gets back to his best in next to no time, then he could prove the difference in their battle for a Champions League spot next season.
