Marcos Rojo is back in the targets of Inter Miami. Having tried to make his signature in the aftermath of the 2023 campaign already, the MLS club are again targeting the Boca Juniors defender with but a few days left until the Club World Cup, according to local sources. The 35-year-old is letting his current agreement with the Argentine club run down and, presently, hasn't been offered a new deal.
This uncertainty has paved the way for future negotiations with the Americans, who see him as an experienced piece well-fitted to the project mounted by Lionel Messi. His summons, made a year ago, might not have been effective then, but now it carries more clout with current conditions.
Boca still hasn't made an offer
He is under contract at Boca through the month of December, but nothing thus far suggests the club is interested in keeping him. Such quietude has contributed to rumors of an exit, but a quiet one. To this, are incidents that have dented his prestige, including red cards and poor performances on the field. And even though he is one of the captains at the club, Rojo is under review.
The Club World Cup could be Rojo's farewell in Boca's blue and yellow. Boca makes their debut on June 16 against Benfica in the United States. Performance in the competition will impact the club's determination, but will be followed closely from the outside world. Inter Miami, to name one, is tracking him without urgency.
Betting on chemistry and a known face
Inter Miami wants to strengthen their defense with players who are known to the locker room, share the language of the club's hierarchy, and continue to be productive on the field. Long-time friend and erstwhile national colleague Rojo would be the perfect fit. His acquisition would also be a name-brand signing on the club's project this term. Suárez, Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Messi are already in place, so Inter is doubling down on known chemistry in an effort to construct a tight-knit outfit on and off the field.
