Inter Miami have become the first-ever MLS side to win a Club World Cup match. Palmeiras' sole previous Club World Cup meeting with CONCACAF-based opposition saw them beaten 1-0 by Tigres UANL of Liga MX in February 2021.

Inter Miami vs Palmeiras preview

These two clubs are both on the cusp of reaching the Club World Cup knockout stages, so who will get the job done in Miami Gardens? Few gave Inter Miami a prayer of progressing, but they're still unbeaten at this tournament, on the brink of getting through. After a goalless draw with Al Ahly on opening night, the Herons upset the odds on Thursday, fighting back from a goal down to defeat Porto. Telasco Segovia scored a spectacular equaliser just after half time, before a magical, majestic Lionel Messi free kick mere moments later secured victory for Javier Mascherano's men.

This is the first time ever any MLS side have claimed a victory at the Club World Cup, and that win at Mercedes-Benz Stadium leaves the Herons on the brink of a place in the round of 16.

Meantime, it is though Palmeiras who currently lead the way in Group A, following a goalless draw with Porto, before the Verdão defeated Al Ahly 2-0 in East Rutherford on Thursday. An own goal broke the deadlock shortly after the interval, before José Manuel López raced in-behind and slotted home the all important second for Abel Ferreira's team in East Rutherford.

So, the winners of this clash in South Florida will progress as group winners, while a draw would guarantee that the pair advance together too. Both will also be guaranteed to go through if the other game in New Jersey finished all square simultaneously. So, expect a nervy night for all involved at Hard Rock Stadium, or will both simply settle for a draw that suits all involved?

Inter Miami team news

Jordi Alba came off the bench for the final ten minutes against Porto, still recovering from a hamstring injury suffered against CF Montréal last month, hoping to see more minutes here.

Elsewhere, for Thursday's win in Georgia, Javier Mascherano decided to bring in Benjamín Cremaschi as Sergio Busquets' midfield partner, chosen over Federico Redondo, while Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez will be looking to add to their combined 1,44 senior goals for club and country.

Inter Miami predicted lineup vs Palmeiras: (4-3-3): Ustari; Weigandt, Fray, Falcón, Allen; Busquets, Cremaschi, Allende, Segovia; Messi, Suárez.

Inter Miami player to watch vs Palmeiras

Lionel Messi's stunning free-kick against Porto was his 50th goal in 61 appearances for Inter Miami, averaging a goal every 98 minutes, so can he further improve that ratio here?

Palmeiras team news

Abel Ferreira made two changes for Thursday's win over Al Ahly, bringing both Raphael Veiga and Facundo Torres into attack, so will he be equally bold here?

Six Verdão players need to be careful, namely Gustavo Gómez, Agustín Giay, Richard Ríos, Felipe Anderson, Joaquín Piquerez and Veiga, given that they're all one booking away from a ban.

Palmeiras predicted lineup vs Inter Miami: (5-3-2): Weverton; Giey, Gómez, Murilo; Anderson, Moreno, Ríos, Piquerez; Mauricio, Estêvão, Vitor Roque.

Palmeiras player to watch vs Inter Miami

18 year old Estêvão Willian, who will join Chelsea after this tournament, is yet to show his best at this summer's Club World Cup, so will he be the star of the show in Miami?

Inter Miami vs Palmeiras prediction

We cannot get away from the fact that a draw will send both teams through so, as much as Porto and Al Ahly supporters won't like to hear it, we're forecasting a stalemate: Inter Miami 2-2 Palmeiras.
