RB Leipzig's poor start to the 2024/25 Bundesliga season is leading to a number of changes in the squad, which has also suffered the loss of Xabi Alonso as head coach to Real Madrid. One of these changes is the probable departure of Timo Werner, and all indications are that the New York Red Bulls are very close to completing an explosive signing for the MLS.
The latest reports in the English press suggest that RB Leipzig are very close to agreeing a deal to sign the striker, who has spent the last 18 months on loan at Tottenham Hotspur. It's important to note that no agreement has yet been signed between the two clubs, but there is huge optimism that the signing will be completed this summer.
If the deal goes through, the NY Red Bulls will be able to count on an old "dream of consumption" in their squad, as Timo Werner has been in the MLS team's sights since the summer of 2024. Negotiations have been underway for some months according to reports, and Werner would be very interested in a move to the club where he will have the presence of his friend Emil Forsberg, a former RB Leipzig teammate, as one of the players to help in his adaptation process.

Timo Werner joined RB Leipzig in 2016 after making a name for himself in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart in 2016. In all, he scored 78 goals out of 127 in the German league before moving to Chelsea in 2020, where he won the historic 2021 UEFA Champions League title. After losing his place at the Blues, he returned to Leipzig in 2022 and rediscovered his technical peak, also being part of the team that won the German Cup in 2023.
However, the following season was difficult and Timo Werner ended up on a one-year loan to Tottenham in 2024, with the tie being extended for a few more months to win the UEFA Europa League title.
Timo Werner could take NY Red Bulls to the next level

Considering that the New York Red Bulls are experiencing a period of upswing in MLS soccer (having reached the MLS Cup for the first time since 2008 last season), the arrival of a left-sided striker alongside Lewis Morgan and Forsberg is perfect for changing the level of the team in the second half of the year.
