Kylian Mbappé has become the central axis of Real Madrid this season, and the numbers help explain why the debate around the team has grown so intense. The French forward has been directly or indirectly involved in 63.8 percent of the club’s goals across all competitions, a figure that stands out and also sheds light on the unstable moment the team has been going through. He’s scored 26 goals and added four assists in 22 matches, while Real Madrid have found the net 47 times overall. When nearly two thirds of the attacking output run through one player, the impact is felt immediately, both on and off the field.
Mbappé remains decisive, leading the La Liga scoring charts with 17 goals and topping the Champions League list with nine. He’s missed just one match in the 2025/26 season, when he started on the bench against Manchester City, and he’s been the only major attacking name to start every game he’s played. In a squad full of stars, that’s not a minor detail, it’s a clear sign of technical dependence.
A concentrated attack and a burden that isn’t shared
The list of Real Madrid’s top scorers this season leaves little room for interpretation. Mbappé has 26 goals. Vinicius Junior trails far behind with five. Bellingham has four. Rodrygo has scored just twice. The rest of the goals are spread among players who don’t primarily play finishing roles. This isn’t about assigning blame, but about recognizing an attacking setup that, so far, hasn’t managed to share responsibility in a balanced way.
Mbappé has gone without a goal or an assist in only five matches. In every other game, he’s either finished the job himself or played a direct part in it. That keeps the team afloat in many moments, but it also increases the pressure when the collective performance dips. In matches where he doesn’t decide things, Real feel it. And they feel it fast.
Four stars on the field, but with a clear hierarchy
The match against Alavés also marked the first time under Xabi Alonso that Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Bellingham, and Mbappé all started together. The second goal came from a Brazilian connection, with Vinicius providing the assist and Rodrygo finishing. Even so, the broader context of the season shows Rodrygo as the most affected by rotation. He’s been a starter in just six of Real’s 19 matches, while Bellingham has started 13 of 18 and Vinicius 19 of 23.
Mbappé’s numbers are extraordinary, but they also underline a real challenge for Xabi Alonso. Real Madrid are going through a stretch of heavy pressure, uneven results, and ongoing questions about their collective performance.
