Full-strength Barcelona with a resounding win over Young Boys in the Champions League

Barcelona responded well after coming off a shock defeat to Osasuna in LaLiga

After resting a number of players in the loss to Osasuna over the weekend, Hansi Flick fielded a full-strength line-up against Young Boys in the Champions League.

Turning the page to what happened in LaLiga, the Catalan side put on a dominant display and made short work of the visitors, defeating Young Boys 5-0.

Barcelona took the lead early with Robert Lewandowski putting the Blaugrana ahead in the eighth minute following link-up play between Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. The Brazilian's shot went across the keeper and the defenders, leaving Lewandowski with nothing to do but tap at it in.

The second goal in the 34th minute courtesy of the aforementioned Raphinha. From a corner, Lamine Yamal returned the ball to Raphinha who slid it back across the area. Taking a touch off Jules Kounde, it landed to Pedri who, with a feint, created the separation he needed to unleash his shot. It was blocked by the defender but landed to Raphinha who doubled Barcelona's lead.

Barcelona made use of their set-piece training with Iñigo Martínez heading in a third off a corner.

While many would have expected Barcelona to completely steamroll over the visitors, Barcelona seemed to take their foot off the gas until Lewandowski netted his brace with Martínez heading towards goal, leaving the Polish striker with an easy finish.

Up by four, Hansi Flick took advantage to make some changed midway through the second half. Ansu Fati, Hector Fort and Frenkie de Jong making his return from an injury that took him six months to recover from.

Adding insult to injury, Mohamed Ali Camara scored an own goal for Barcelona's fifth of the night.

Flick also took the opportunity to give more La Masia their first team debut with 17-year-old Andrés Cuenca replacing Martínez.

It was a performance the club needed following a tough win at home against Getafe a week back and the loss to Osasuna. While some may point to the limitations of the opponent, it's these types of games that Barcelona used to struggle nonetheless in recent history.

With this new Champions League format and having loss their first game against AS Monaco, goal differential could very well come into play in the final matchdays.

Barcelona will now look to get back to winning ways in LaLiga when they face Mallorca on Saturday.
