Hansi Flick won't be able to count on a full squad in Barcelona's preseason tour as a number of players will be given extended vacation.

According to Diario Sport's Toni Juanmartí, the players set to miss the tour in the United States are Ferran Torres, Lamine Yamal and Pedri.

The latter is recovering from an injury and won't be available for a while. Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal will be given an extended break given their participation with Spain in the Euros.

Fermin Lopez was also with Spain but he'll be unavailable because he is set to join the Spanish team in the Olympics. The same situation applies to Pau Cubarsi who was one of the final players cut from the team who won the Euros.

Lamine and Ferran therefore are expected to rejoin the team until August 7 or 8.

Given the amount of football played and what occurred with Pedri a couple of seasons ago, Barcelona want to be careful with their players.

The idea behind the extended break is to let the players recover both physically and mentally. This was likely always going to be the case though the lenght of the break might have depended on how far Spain went in the tournament.

In theory, the same will apply to Nico Williams should Barcelona end up completing his signing. He appears to be the Catalan side's top priority and are growing increasingly confident they'll reach an agreement with the player and with Athletic Bilbao.

It's certainly not how Hansi Flick envisioned starting his Barcelona tenure but he's going to have to adjust and prepare with the players he does have at his disposal. Alongside Pedri, Gavi and Ronald Araujo won't be available for a while due to injury.

If there is any consolation, other players who participated in EURO 2024 like Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan, to name a few, will take part in the preseason tour.
