AC Milan welcomed the newly promoted Venezia with the aim of obtaining the first victory of this new season after the disappointing performances of the first three days that led to heavy criticism towards the technical and tactical management of the new coach Paulo Fonseca.

Moreover, despite some rumours on the eve of the match having excluded Théo Hernandez and Rafael Leao from the starting lineup, the very strong duo started from the first minute. And it was precisely the two players just mentioned who contributed to the immediate advantage of the Rossoneri.

In fact, the home team started off aggressively and thus recovered the ball in the high area and a combination between the French full-back and the Portuguese offensive winger led to the cross-shot by Théo Hernandez which found the lucky deflection of the opposing goalkeeper who was unable to parry it optimally.

A few minutes later, in the 16th minute, the Rossoneri also found the goal of the second on the developments of a corner kick taken by Christian Pulisic.
In this case too, a not very good exit by the goalkeeper of the visiting team favored the goal on a deflection by the French midfielder Youssouf Fofana.

The latter thus scored his first goal with his new jersey. In any case, AC Milan did not stop pressing and creating scoring opportunities. In the space of a few minutes, also taking advantage of the state of confusion or inattention of the defenders of the visiting team, two penalties were awarded, both well scored.

First with the American Christian Pulisic who wrong-footed the opposing goalkeeper, and then with Tammy Abraham. The English striker, like his American teammate, also kicked perfectly scoring his first goal of the season. From this moment the match was completely under the control of AC Milan.

The second half started without any changes for the Rossoneri. During the last half of the game there were no great opportunities except for a close-range shot by Rafael Leao that was blocked by the opposing goalkeeper and then two powerful but high shots by midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

To make things easier for the home team, there was the expulsion of midfielder Nicolussi Caviglia for a foul detected after a VAR review. The result and the numerical superiority allowed AC Milan to manage the pace of the second half so as to save energy in view of the very important match on Tuesday evening against Liverpool in the Champions League.

With the result of this match, AC Milan obtained its first seasonal success and thus rose to 5 points in the standings. The next matchday will be the Milan Derby. While Venezia remained in last place, having suffered its third defeat (out of four matches played so far) of the championship.
