Nico Williams is the number one priority for Barcelona during this transfer window. Within the club, they are optimistic a deal will get done.

At the same time, the Catalan side has reportedly asked for one thing from Williams' camp: Patience.

According to Relevo, Barcelona remain quite confident about signing the Athletic Bilbao winger. The reason behind their request is they still need to sort a couple of things in order to have everything financially squared away and be able to pay the €58 million release clause.

While the sale of an important player isn't exactly necessary, Barcelona still need to officially announce the Nike sponsorship deal. This would go a long way towards helping Barcelona get back to the infamous 1:1 rule.

Deco, alongside other Barcelona representatives, have met with Williams' agent in an attempt to reach on agreement on a potential contract. Barcelona has reportedly already made their offer and are awaiting a response from the player.

While there is no specific timetable, Barcelona want to get everything settled within the first two weeks of August. It's worth pointing out that Williams is set to report to preseason training on August 12.

Athletic Bilbao know Williams is in high demand and Barcelona are unlikely not the only club interested in the 22-year-old.

Athletic Bilbao manager, Ernesto Valverde, expects to see Williams in preseason training.

"We count on Nico's return," Valverde said. "He is happy with us and we are happy with him.

"I am completely calm and all I want is for Nico to be calm as well.'

Valverde's response is what is to be expected but it is a toss up as to whether or not Williams is wearing an Athletic Bilbao jersey come next season.

All signs indicate that if Williams were to leave, his preferred destination is to Barcelona. As we saw during his time with Spain at EURO 2024, he was very close to the Barcelona quartet. Not only that but he'd also reunite with another friend in Alejandro Balde.

More meeting are expected this week but no official announcement is expected to be made. As mentioned, Barcelona need to get their ducks in a row. The only certainty is Williams is Barcelona's main priority and will do what it takes to sign him.
